AP - Late last year, when I was playing Valve's brilliant puzzle game "Portal," I felt a weird sensation: Laughter. I'm not sure when I first noticed it; perhaps it was when GLaDOS, the insane artificial intelligence that was tormenting me, promised "grief counseling and cake" after my ordeal. What really threw me was the idea that a video game could make me laugh out loud.

Noblesville, very quickly, has become the giant killer of 2008 postseason softball play.
Unranked in the state and considered no better than the third best team in the most loaded sectional in the state, Saturday morning at NHS Coach Mike Ramsey’s exciting Lady Millers upset No. 9 rated and defending state champion Hamilton Southeastern 1-0 in a down-to-the wire thriller.
Earlier in the tournament, Noblesville eliminated No. 2 ranked Carmel.

Fans who enjoy extra inning thrillers and down to the wire finishes got their money’s worth on Memorial Day in the opening round of the Class 4A Westfield Sectional.

In the second game, Westfield got strong pitching from junior Kyle Kramp and timely hitting in defeating Zionsville 5-3.
The Shamrocks and Tigers are scheduled to meet tonight in a 5:30 p.m. semifinal

Two of the Blackhawks top players were kicked off the team for their participation in the prank which took place three days before Sheridan’s meeting with Guerin Catholic Monday in Class 2A Sectional 40 at Oak Hill.
The Golden Eagles took advantage of Sheridan’s situation by pounding the Blackhawks 12-2 in five innings during the first-round game. After falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first inning, Guerin bounced back with five runs in the bottom of the frame. The Golden Eagles closed the deal

The tournament level was semi-state, but the battle between the Carmel and Park Tudor girls tennis teams was anything but semi-fierce.
The two teams met in the North Central semi-state championship Saturday, with the three-time defending state champion Panthers edging the Greyhounds 3-2. The win sent Park Tudor to next Saturday’s state championship, where it will try to join Evansville Memorial as the only team to win four consecutive state crowns.
Third-ranked Carmel was trying to get back into the state finals for the first time since 2003, and didn’t let the top-ranked Panthers have anything easy.

The Red Sox apparently didn’t get the memo in time, which caused a lot of consternation when all J.D. Drew wanted to do was slather some “Manny Mota Grip Stick” on a new piece of wood.
The Mota stick itself wasn’t the problem the other night in Oakland. Not since George Brett went berserk 25 years ago have many umpires begrudged a player the right to make his bat handle as sticky as he wants.
Drew’s crime was that he was wasting time, though it was hitting coach Dave Magadan who served the sentence when he
