INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A pastor said a videotape of officers kicking a burglary suspect following a brief chase early Tuesday is likely to damage police efforts to improve relations with the community. A WTHR-TV helicopter camera shot footage of officers kicking Felipe Elvarado, 26, of Indianapolis at least five times as he lie on the ground. Bald eagle removed from state’s endangered list

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Bald eagles have been removed from Indiana’s endangered species list, and state wildlife biologists released one of the birds to mark the event. The eagle that was released Tuesday at Monroe Reservoir had been “rehabbed” after its rescue from an emaciated condition early last month. It grew from 6 pounds to 9 pounds while being looked after by the nonprofit Wild Care Inc. MUNCIE, Ind. (AP) — A gay Ball State University student said he and his friends were attacked because of their sexuality, leaving him with a scratched cornea, a swollen eye, cuts and bruises. IDEM pollution prevention grants available

Noblesville UPS store to accept energy bill payments

Beginning Monday, Duke Energy is offering a new, free payment option for customers who normally pay their bills at the company’s Noblesville customer service office. The utility has made arrangements with the Noblesville UPS Store to collect payments for Duke Energy. Indianapolis Zoo to award $100,000 to researcher

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A wildlife researcher who has spent more than 50 years working to save endangered species around the world will be named the 2008 winner of The Indianapolis Prize. Mother dies of injuries from fire that killed 2 children

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — A mother who had been hospitalized since a Sunday fire that killed two daughters has died of her injuries. A Wishard Memorial Hospital spokesman says 29-year-old Natasha Drake died late Tuesday in the intensive care unit. Her daughters, 10-year-old Camry Drake and 7-year-old Lanesha Drake, died shortly after the fire. Her son, 2-year-old Elijah Drake, remains hospitalized in serious condition. Two other people escaped without injury through a window of the near north side home. Investigators say the fire may have started by an unattended candle.
