Noblesville won six events, set records in two of those and tied a record in another to win a slugfest from host Lafayette Jeff Friday evening in the Hoosier Crossroads Conference Boys Track & Field Meet.
It was the Millers’ first championship in this meet in the eight-year history of the HCC.
“We’ve never done well in this meet and tonight we left the door open in a few spots,” said winning coach Kent Graham.
Noblesville finished with 128 points to Lafayette Jeff’s 123.5 points.
Avon was third with 80.5, followed by McCutcheon 75.5, Hamilton Southeastern 70, Zionsville 64 Fishers

There’s nothing which is more challenging in high school sports than running a good track and field meet.
Track and field demands more. In basketball, schools pay two or three whistle blowers, provide a scoreboard operator, a PA person, and someone to keep the scorebook and it is business as usual. Same goes for baseball and softball. In fact, the same goes for most sports.
Track and field is different. Loads of people are needed to serve as judges in the various events and there are so many people in the press box the group sometimes out numbers

Sheridan junior Nick Zachery had a sensational night as the Blackhawks competed in the Hoosier Conference meet Friday in West Lafayette.
The quarterback of the state champion Blackhawk football team showed his wheels on the track by winning the 100 dash (11.19), 200 dash (23.21) and 400 dash (51.43).
“Nick kind of went crazy tonight,” said Sheridan coach Rob Williamson. “It was fun to watch. He had an exceptional meet for us.”
The Sheridan boys finished sixth in the seven-team field with 34 points. West Lafayette cruised to the team title with 171.5 points. The Blackhawks also scored in the

The Hamilton Heights track teams each finished second at the Mid-Indiana Conference meet Friday at Maconaquah High School.
Both the Huskies’ boys and girls teams were bested by Northwestern. The Panther boys scored 131 points to Heights’ 111, while the Lady Panthers edged the Huskies 106-100.
Heights’ boys team won six events on the night. Zach Copas won three events, taking the 100 (11.1) and 200 (22.9) dashes, and also running on the Huskies’ winning 4x100 relay team, along with Aaron Heinzman, Andrew Reed and D.J. Harbit (45.4).
Copas was named as the meet’s outstanding boy athlete, as he scored
