HCC girls’ tennis tourney: Royals second, Millers third in HCC meet

No. 5 Zionsville entered the Hoosier Crossroads Conference girls’ tennis meet as the favorite but a pair of top-20 Hamilton County schools kept things interesting Saturday at Fishers. The’ boys Hamilton County Track & Field Meet held Friday and finished Saturday morning at Carmel is, in my opinion, why track and field is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, high school sport. One athlete, in track and field, who finishes sixth, seventh or even eighth in an event such as the county can, and often does, make the difference. Carmel tennis wins fifth MIC tourney

The 12th annual Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference girls’ tennis tournament turned into a record-setting day for No. 3 ranked Carmel. The Greyhounds won four titles in four of the five positions and finished with a team record of 55 points, breaking their previous best of 54. Softball: Blackhawks sweep Bombers

The Sheridan softball team got its first Hoosier Conference sweep of the season Saturday by winning a doubleheader at Rensselaer. The Blackhawks (7-9, 3-7) won the first game 9-3. Sheridan had nine hits, with pitcher Haleigh Hiatt and shortstop Abby Zeiler each getting two hits. Hiatt, right fielder Grace Hillock and catcher Courtney Faucett each drove in two runs.
