Members of Hamilton County’s firefighting community are mourning the sudden loss of White River Township Volunteer Fire Department Chief Phil Achenbach.
Achenbach, 59, of Omega, died Wednesday of a heart attack while returning from a trip to Indianapolis. He was driving and had pulled off the side of the Interstate 465 approach to the I-69 north exit, according to Kay Hartley of Hartley Funeral Homes.
She said two registered nurses had stopped to help and Achenbach was rushed to Community

Brad Flinchum of Noblesville won $200,000 on the NBC hit game show “Deal or No Deal”. The program aired Monday night.
Contestants must select one of 26 sealed briefcases containing anywhere from a few cents to $1 million. As the remaining briefcases are opened, the likelihood of the player having a valuable cash amount in his or her own case decreases or increases. The contestant can strike a deal from “the Banker” for cash in exchange for the case he or she has selected or stick with their original choice.

Current Hamilton County Council President Rick McKinney, an at-large candidate seeking re-election in Tuesday’s May primary, has filed for personal bankruptcy three times in the past 22 years.

Qualifications, experience drive candidates for court
Two years ago, Sonia J. Leerkamp and Paul Felix faced off in a race for Hamilton County Prosecuting Attorney that came down to the wire in the May Primary.
Leerkamp won a tight battle on the Republican ticket, edging Felix by 134 votes – 10,663 to 10,529 – locking up the position as she ran unopposed in the General Election.

The VFW is looking for some community loyalty – to show support to men and women in the armed forces and honor local heroes who have given their lives and paid the price to make America great.
But members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6246 in Noblesville say local interest in celebrating Loyalty Day has waned in the past few years.
Loyalty Day, which falls on May 1, will be celebrated locally with a parade beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.

BEECH GROVE, Ind. (AP) — Barack Obama teamed up with wife Michelle on Wednesday to court working families with a little kitchen table conversation about tax cuts. Rival Hillary Rodham Clinton hitched a ride in a pickup truck to a gas pump to illustrate the pain inflicted on ordinary families by skyrocketing prices.

INDIANAPOLIS — Democrat Jim Schellinger said Wednesday that he would pressure Washington to find solutions to high gasoline prices if elected governor, and would consider long-term ways of providing state relief.
Among other things, he said he would study the idea of making the state sales tax on gasoline a flat tax so it would not go up as prices go up.
Schellinger announced the proposals or possible plans as the price of a regular unleaded hit an all time high in Indiana.

HSE choirs present ‘Rockin’ the Paradise’ concert May 8,9

The Hamilton Southeastern High School Choral Department will present its 2008 Spring Show, “Rockin’ the Paradise,” May 8 and 9 at 7 p.m. in the Leonard Auditorium.
It features songs of paradise, the beach, heat, water, vacation and summer. The show includes familiar songs such as “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Rockin’ the Paradise,” “Heatwave,” “Vacation,” “California Dreamin’,” “Le Jazz Hot,” “Surfin’ U.S.A” and many more.
Tickets purchased in advance are $6 or at the door are $7 for adults and students, $3 for children ages 4-6
