In the opening game of a Saturday double-header with visiting Grosse Pointe South (Michigan), Fishers found lots of way to get its Tigers on base. In the second game, Fishers found lots of way to get its Tigers across the plate.
After leaving nine runners on base in a 3-1 opening defeat, Fishers pounded out eight hits while winning a 10-0 nightcap in five innings.
“We left lots of runners on base in the first game,” said Fishers coach Matthew Cherry. “We had lots of strikeouts (14). Their pitcher (senior Mark Riashi) is No. 1 on their staff.”

“It has,” said Fishers baseball coach Matthew Cherry, been a good start.”
His Tigers, after knocking off No. 2 ranked Kokomo earlier in the week, had split a pair of games with Grosse Pointe South Michigan on a cold Saturday afternoon at Fishers.
“Now,” followed up Cherry, “we’ll find out if the start was for real.”
Fishers was scheduled to host Alexandria today and then will follow that tilt with three consecutive road games, two this week. The Tigers will play Tuesday at Carmel and Thursday at Columbus North.

Chad Carr has inherited a great situation at Carmel with the state’s No. 5 ranked team.
The new Greyhound coach has five seniors, including two that helped Carmel finish second in the state finals – Justin Isenthal and Tony Lazzara. Isenthal shot the lowest round of any CHS golfer with a second-day, 1-under-par 71. Carmel was runner-up to Floyd Central by four strokes.
The Greyhounds have plenty of talent as Isenthal and Lazzara are projected to start the season in the No. 3 and No. 4 spots. At the top of the lineup are senior Adam Schneider

A surprise sectional winner in 2006 looks to regain its postseaon glory this year.
Westfield returns a pair of key players from that 2006 team with seniors Tyler Carroll and Alex Walker. Last season, Walker made the state finals as a junior.

Seven of Hamilton Southeastern’s 15 varsity players are sophomores but opponents should not be fooled by the Royals’ youth. At the state finals last season, HSE used freshmen at the top of the lineup with Parker Sheppard and Grant Braden. Now a part of a strong group of sophomores, Sheppard and Braden look to help Southeastern reach the state finals at the Legends of Indiana Golf Course again.
“I tell my kids every year I have the same high expectations,” said HSE coach David Young. “We have such a young team but we have experience in tournament play. I

After losing golfers the caliber of Eric Steger and Daniel Hinds to graduation, most teams would be destined for a rebuilding year. This is not the case with Noblesville.
Despite losing his No. 1 and No. 2 players, NHS coach Gary Deakyne expects his team to be in the mix when the state finals roll around.
“We have such a tradition here,” said Deakyne. “Setting our goals of anything less than winning state – that is just not who we are. I think this team is capable, we just have some work to do to get there.”

DETROIT (AP) — And then there were ones.
Four No. 1s, that is.
Kansas prevented Stephen Curry from taking the last shot and withstood Davidson’s long-range miss at the buzzer, holding on for a 59-57 victory Sunday that put all four No. 1 seeds into the Final Four for the first time.
After Kansas’ Sherron Collins missed with 19 seconds left, the 10th-seeded Wildcats got one last chance. Curry was double-teamed, could not get off a shot and forced to pass to Jason Richards, whose 25-footer from the top of the key thudded off
